Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SCS SB 997 -- COLLECTION OF PROPERTY TAXES

SPONSOR: Quick (Willoughby)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 12 to 0.

This substitute requires county collectors to apply payments for
real property taxes against any delinquent property taxes before
applying the payment to taxes due in the current year. The
requirement does not apply to the payment of real property taxes
made by financial institutions or mortgage loan companies from
escrow accounts.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the substitute cleans up a
problem with a bill passed a couple of years ago regarding tax
collections and the payment of taxes from escrow accounts.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Quick.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
